Reclaim Martin L King Jr. Day, call on Mayor de Blasio to Step Down!
Join communities across the city from South Bronx to East Harlem, from Lower East Side and Chinatown to Staten Island and more to tell Mayor de Blasio his time is up! Within his three years in office, de Blasio has been trying to rezone the entire city to increase luxury developments that displace working families. On the other hand, he refuses to adopt community-led rezonings like the Chinatown Working Group rezoning plan, calling them too ambitious. Is it too ambitious to provide people of color equal protection against luxury development? Meanwhile, de Blasio is under investigations for taking campaign donations from developers who made crooked deals to turn nursing homes, libraries and other buildings into luxury condos. It is obvious that Mayor de Blasio is working to help enrich his developer friends and the wealthy at the expanse of working people and communities of color.
With an eye towards the next election, Mayor de Blasio has put on publicity stunts and portrayed himself as the protector of immigrants and people of color from Donald Trump. But how can he when he himself is displacing people of color and destroying our communities throughout the city? Don't ask the fox to protect us from the wolf! In the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr., who truly fought for equality all his life, we expose the true color of this corrupt Mayor and say: enough is enough!
Join us to demand:
1. End racism in city planning. Pass community-based “People First” plans like the Chinatown Working Group rezoning plan.
2. End public funding for luxury development, such as 421-a. Instead, use public resources to preserve and build more permanent low-income housing.
3. Stop privatization of public land and assets.
4. Mayor de Blasio and those in City Council who also collude with developers to step down.
