Join James and the campaign as we support this important event!
"Beginning on March 21st, 1965 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., everyday people, teachers, some elected officials, and local clergy successfully completed the twice before attempted march from Selma to Montgomery. In the spirit of their success, and as a reminder of their perseverance dignity, and courage, we will replicate the final leg of their journey with a commemorative march through our communities. As Voting Rights were the central issue of that time, so is voter registration and combating voter apathy to our time. We will use this opportunity to register voters during the march. This will be a solemn, dignified reflection of the tenacity of leaders from 1965, not a traditional protest. There will be a short rally at the end of the march, where we will hear from clergy and our elected officials on their reflections of Selma as well as the importance of voting. During the rally we will honor those Staten Islanders upon whose shoulders we stand.
